Outscape in the community
The value of tourism isn’t measured only by the experiences visitors take home. It’s also measured by what it leaves behind.

Introducing Outscape to the Flinders Island Community
We are getting ready to open the doors of The Flinders Wharf — and we wanted you, our island community, to be the first to hear what's coming.
What is Outscape?
Outscape is a new project from Jo and Tom Youl, based at The Flinders Wharf. From November, we'll welcome small groups of 6 to 12 guests to stay and experience the island over four or five nights, running for eight months of the year (normally October to the end of May). Guests will stay either Friday to Monday or Monday to Friday.
The Wharf itself has been completely transformed for this next chapter: six new king split rooms, a library, a dining space, a shop, a sauna, an ice bath and hot tub, and a kitchen at the heart of it all.
Opening The Wharf to the Community
Outscape is our main focus, but it's not the only reason we've renovated The Flinders Wharf. We're just as keen to open this space up to the community — to support local health and wellbeing, and to create real opportunities for our island kids to learn and work in tourism and hospitality.
From November 2026, here's what we'll be running:
Local guide program — we'd love to bring on local guides and hosts as part of the Outscape team, because we know islanders know this place best. As an Outscape guide, you'll meet genuinely interesting visitors, learn more about the place you already love, work alongside a supportive and fun professional team, get paid to be outside (especially on the good weather days), and train with some of the best in the state. We're flexible around your availability and looking for capable locals who want to be part of this. If that's you, get in touch by emailing hello@outscapeflindersisland.com.au
We’re also looking for locals to join our team across cleaning, laundry and maintenance. Get in touch to find out more about the roles currently available.
Saturday morning Parkrun, 9 am–12 pm — We’ll open our doors to the community, with the downstairs dining and library areas available for everyone to enjoy. Each week, there’ll be coffee and a simple bake sale run by Island kids.

Wellness at the Wharf — locals will be able to book shared or private wellness sessions using the sauna, ice bath and hot tub. We'll share a booking link and local promo code in late October.
Local wellness retreat with Sofie Bach — we're taking expressions of interest for a local wellness retreat, with our first one running at the end of October. If there's enough interest, we'll plan more for winter 2027. Details will be on our website soon.
Open Day — Wednesday 28 October, 12 pm–5 pm 2026
As we near completion of the build, we'd like to invite you all to an open day on Wednesday 28 October, from 12–5 pm. Pop in and have a look around.
We also want to take this chance to personally thank Bass Strait Builders and Jhay for the fantastic job they've done on the build and landscaping. It's been a huge effort, and it shows.

Why We're Doing This
Our goal is for Outscape and The Flinders Wharf to be a genuinely positive island business— one that contributes to the community. The more support and success we can build, the more we can put back into this great place.
If you have feedback or questions, or you'd like to submit an expression of interest to become a local guide or take part in our wellness retreats, email us at hello@outscapeflindersisland.com.au
