No one else can share the Island quite like someone who knows it firsthand and who understands its seasons, its tides, its people and the small details you only come to know by spending real time here.

Outscape is a fully hosted, nature-connected experience here on Flinders Island, built on exactly that kind of local knowledge, and it's why we're calling on islanders to join us as guides.

The local guide program

If you've been looking for tour guide jobs on Flinders Island, this is it. We'd love to bring on local guides and hosts as part of the Outscape team, because we know islanders know this place best.

As an Outscape guide, you'll meet genuinely interesting visitors from all over the world, and get to see your own island through fresh eyes in the process. You'll learn more about the place you already love - because good guiding has a way of teaching you things about home you never knew. You'll work alongside a supportive, fun professional team that takes the work seriously without taking themselves too seriously. You'll get paid to be outside, especially on the good weather days. And you'll train with some of the best in the state. Our guiding program is built and delivered by people who've spent decades shaping how Tasmania welcomes visitors, so you'll come away with real, transferable skills, not just a script.

This isn't about reciting facts on a bus. It's about being a genuine ambassador for this place, someone who can read a group, share a story, and help a stranger leave a little more connected to Flinders Island than when they arrived.

Annual Outscape Guide Training - Friday 9th & Saturday 10th October 2026- hands-on and on-island, run every year with Larni Davies of Guiding Light Tourism - a Tasmanian with more than 30 years across guiding, tourism education and workforce development. It's less about ticking off a guiding qualification than about learning to design moments guests will carry home with them:

We're also backed by Paul Cooper, Teacher of Tour Guiding and Tourism at TasTAFE's School of Visitor Economy, so our guides are learning from people who train guides right across the state, not just within Outscape. We're bringing Paul over for the show on 16 October 2026 too, so there'll be a chance to meet him in person.

Part of the family, not just the roster

Once you're in, you're in properly. Our guides, hosts and team of staff are part of the Outscape family, not simply a list of people we call when we need a shift covered. That means ongoing support, training, a team that has your back, and a workplace on the island that's genuinely good to be part of.

Who we're looking for

We're flexible around your availability and looking for capable locals who want to be part of this, whether that's a few days a season or something more regular. You don't need a tourism background to become a tour guide with us. You need to love this island, be comfortable with people, and want to be part of a team that's building something worth being proud of.

Larni Davies Bio

Larni Davies is the founder of Guiding Light Tourism and a Tasmanian tourism professional with more than 37 years of experience across guiding, tourism training and industry leadership.  She currently leads Workforce & Specialist Industry Programs at the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT), where she recently developed Tasmania's Tour Guide Training Framework, helping shape the future of guiding across the state.

Larni began her guiding career in Canada before returning home to Tasmania, where she worked as an adventure tour guide leading walks on the Overland Track and in other remote locations across the state before moving into tourism management.  She went on to coordinate the Adventure Tour Guiding program at TasTAFE Drysdale in Hobart for 20 years.  Larni continues to guide for Tourism Tasmania's Experience Program, maintaining a strong connection with visitors and the practical realities of delivering great visitor experiences.

She is passionate about building confident, capable local guides who can share the stories and spirit of the places they call home and can't wait to bring that experience to training Outscape’s guides.
