Family and future

Jo Youl is the calm point at the eye of the storm, the human connection between the kaleidoscopic elements of island tourism. Living on a busy farm in the island’s north, she co-ordinates Outscape, The Wharf and On Island Time: she can summon flights when there are none, find the perfect tech fix for a commercial kitchen, or produce a world-class mojito before you even noticed the sun was setting.

Some places leave a lasting impression. For Jo, Flinders Island became home.

From childhood holidays spent exploring Quoin Farm with her grandparents to building a life on the island with her husband Tom, Jo’s connection to Flinders has grown over decades. She understands that the true character of the island is not found on a map. It is found in the people, the stories passed from one generation to the next and the quiet moments that become lifelong memories. Having known the island first as a visitor and later as a local, she brings a perspective shaped by both wonder and belonging.

Today, Jo helps others feel the same pull that first drew her back. On each journey, she welcomes guests with the easy warmth that defines island life, introducing them to local stories, local people and the slower rhythm of a place that cannot be rushed. For Jo, the greatest part of any journey is helping people feel, even briefly, that they belong.
